ISO 14001:2004 Certification
Samanalawewa Power Station of CEB has emerged as the first Government Entity in Sri Lanka to be awarded with the ISO 14001:2004 certification by Sri Lanka Standards Institution for it’s Environmental Management System in 2007.

Environmental Impact Assessments
Conducting the Environmental Impact Assessments for all the Development Projects of CEB is an integral part of CEB’s Environment Policy.
 
Environment Unit of CEB has conducted detailed Environmental Impact Assessments, and obtained environmental approvals for 31 Nos of Development Projects of CEB, under the National Environmental Act (NEA).

Environmental Unit of CEB has also conducted Environmental & Social Consideration (ESC) Process under the guidelines of relevant funding agencies for a number of Development Projects of CEB, and prepared the Environmental Safeguard Documents as appropriate, which have been accepted by the said funding agencies.

Environment Protection Licences
Annual Environment Protection Licenses have been obtained from Central Environmental Authority for the Thermal Power Stations belonging to CEB in accordance with the NEA.
 
 
Inventory of Transformers Contaminated with Polyclorinated Bypheniles (PCBs)
CEB has participated in UNEP/GEF facilitated project for “Preparation of a National Implementation Plan for the Control of PCBs” conducted by the Ministry of Environment, and has prepared a preliminary inventory of PCB contaminated transformers belonging to CEB, in 2005.
