The Award Ceremony of the ‘Art and Creative Electrical Energy Saving Tips Competition’

With the intention of making Sri Lanka aware about electrical energy saving and efficient use of electricity through the future generation, an ‘Art and Creative Electrical Energy Saving Tips Competition’ was organized by the Research and Development branch of Ceylon Electricity Board. With the assistance of the Ministry of Education and the Presidential Task Force on Energy Demand Side Management, students from grade 6 to grade 13, teachers and parents of schools situated island wide were informed about the competition since the first week of March 2017 through Sinhala & Tamil national and children’s newspapers and letters posted with instructions.
The competition was open only for students from grade 6 to 13 and in order to create a path for the creative works of the students to reach Research and Development branch, a special programme was launched through the regional branches of Ceylon Electricity Board situated island wide.
District level winners were chosen from the Electrical Energy Saving Tips Competition while District level and National level winners were chosen from the Art Competition. In order to select National level winners from the District level winners of the Art Competition, the final round was held at Battaramulla ‘Ape Gama’ premises where National level winners were chosen under three age categories.
The award ceremony of the above ‘Art and Creative Electrical Energy Saving Tips Competition’ and the exhibition of the creative works of the winners, were held at BMICH Main Auditorium on 21st September 2017, with the participation of Honorable Minister of Power & Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya as the Chief Guest. Honourable Deputy Minister of Power & Renewable Energy Ajith P. Perera, Vice Chairman of Ceylon Electivity Board W.A. Gamini Wanasekara, General Manager of Ceylon Electivity Board Eng. A K. Samarasinghe, Additional General Managers, Deputy General Managers and officials from the Ministry of Education participated in the event.
District level and National level winners were awarded with cash prizes, trophies and certificates and the schools of the winners were awarded with 50% of the cash prizes. 192 winners of the Art Competition and 83 winners of the Electrical Energy Saving Tips Competition were thus awarded during the ceremony.
The competition was organized by the Research and Development branch of Corporate Strategy Division of Ceylon Electricity Board.
