Several rural electrification schemes implemented under the Soorya Mangallaya Aluth Avurudhu Eliya electrification Scheme were vested with the people recently at a special ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of the Hon. President Maithripala Sirisena. Twelve thousand eight hundred fifty rural households who received their electricity connections under these schemes were able to celebrate the Sinhala Hindu New Year in a more grand way this year.

A large number of rural electrification schemes and power extensions that were implemented under this project, have now been completed successfully.

The President commended the Ceylon Electricity Board for successfully implementing these rural electrification schemes under the directions of the Ministry of Power and Energy.

Significant changes have already taken place in the villages that had been provided with electricity recently. The standard of the lifestyles of the villagers has improved substantially bringing about a socio economic transformation of the communities concerned.

The Hon. Minister of Power and Energy, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Secretary to the President Mr. P B Abeykoon, Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy, Dr. B M S Batagoda, along with senior officials of the Ministry of Power and Energy and the Ceylon Electricity Board were among those who participated at the ceremony.
