CEB Energized the 220 kV Polpitiya – Hambantota Transmission Line and Hambantota New Grid Substation


The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is happy to announce the opening and energization of newly constructed Polpitiya - Hambantota 220 kV Transmission Line and Hambantota new Grid Substation on 24th August 2023.

The project was funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) to develop the Polpitiya - Hambantota 220 kV transmission line and Hambantota new Grid Substation with the investment of USD 55 Million.

This 150 km long Transmission line runs through eleven (11) Divisional Secretariats from Ambagamuwa to Hambantota and the line capacity is 580 MVA. The Hambantota new Grid Substation was completed with two power transformers with a 500 MVA total capacity.

With this transmission network improvement, Southern part of electric grid will be strengthen there by increasing the reliability of power supply and power transfer capability to and from Southern region.

This occasion was graced by Mr. Nalinda Ilangakoon, Chairman of CEB and Eng. Rohan Seneviratne, General Manager of CEB.

Eng. (Mrs.) C.D. Satharasinghe, Addl. General Manager (Projects), Eng. H.K. Illeperuma, Former Project Director (Green Power Development Project), and Eng. Anuruddha Tilakaratne, Project Director (Green Power Development Project) / PD - (Uma Oya HPP) also participated for this occasion.
