Ceylon Electricity Board, in collaboration with the Department of Education and Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, organizes an All Island Quiz Competition. The first and the second stages of the competition were held in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
With the success of the first two stages, the third stage of the competition was commenced on 1st October, 2018 at Imbulana Sri Sena Maha Vidyalaya with the presence of the Hon. Minister of Power and Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Chairman of Ceylon Electricity Board Mr. W. B. Ganegala, General Manager Eng. A. K. Samarasinghe and many other senior officials. Six schools belonging to the Dehiowita Education Zone took part in the first programme of the third stage.
The second programme of the competition was held on 18th October 2018 at President’s College, Embilipitiya. The schools Embilipitiya Maha Vidyalaya, Embilipitiya President's College, Panamura Maha Vidyalaya, Chandrikawewa Jayanthi Maha Vidyalaya, Colomboagedara Maha Vidyalaya, Udawalawa Maha Vidyalaya, Moraketiya Maha Vidyalaya, Kella Sri Sunanda Maha Vidyalaya, Kularatne Vidyalaya and Rahula National College, belonging to Embilipitiya Education Zone, participated in the second programme.
The third programme of the third stage, was held on 26th October 2018 at U. B. Wanninayake Maha Vidyalaya. Ten schools belonging to Maho Education Zone participated in the programme.
The objective of this program is to equip Sri Lankan school children with electricity related knowledge, and to make them aware about electricity safety measures. The competition also creates an opportunity for children to display their aesthetic skills such as singing and dancing. The competition, which will be held in both Sinhala and Tamil languages, would be continued with the participation of ten schools from each Education Zone, named by the Department of Education.
The third stage of the competition is scheduled for completion in November 2019.
