The "Uma Diya Janani" multipurpose development project was jointly inaugurated on April 24, 2024, by the Presidents of Iran and Sri Lanka.
During the ceremony, Iranian President H.E. (Dr.) Ibrahim Raisi and Sri Lankan President H.E. Ranil Wickremesinghe both unveiled a commemorative plaque and inaugurated the project, initiating the operation of electricity generators through digital technology.
The project is expected to contribute to the national electricity supply by generating 290 gigawatt-hours (290 GWh) of electrical energy each year.
